About Us

L'Alliance Française is an international organisation, whose main aim is to promote French culture throughout the world.  It was created in Paris in 1883 by a group of eminent men, including Louis Pasteur, Ferdinand de Lesseps and Jules Verne.
Its principal objective is to offer the possibility to learn and practise the French language.  However language is but one of the major components of culture.  Understanding a culture implies an appreciation of other forms of expression, such as music, painting, films and so on. This is reflected in the various activities organised by the Alliance Française.
More than 440,000 students learn French at one of the centres run by the Alliance Française, located in France and in 133 countries.

AF was established in April 1976, and a strong French cultural presence has continued in the region since then.   We are an autonomous and vibrant organisation run by volunteers and made up of people from highly diverse backgrounds with a wide range of interests. We run weekly classes at different levels, a friendly gathering each Saturday morning at a local restaurant, regular film evenings, as well as various other monthly activities
Members are entitled to attend the monthly social events organised by the committee, as well as receive our newsletter . . .
‘le Lien”.
